Elderberry Wisdom Farm’s Native Plant Nursery News and Development – October 2026

-Joaquin Ocana, Native Plant Nursery Coordinator

This month, the Elderberry Wisdom fall cohort of interns and staff have worked extensively on the development of our recessed native seed beds and

the foundation of our second native plant nursery at GeerCrest farm. Working carefully with their hands, studying native seeds, and using fire, the team has focused attentively on the removal of invasive species and germination of a variety of Oregon native forbs and first foods. Moving diligently and with enthusiasm, they laid cardboard, spread mulch chips, set pallets and moved over six hundred different native oak and coniferous trees into the nursery.

Seeing the nursery continue to develop into a functioning and flowing system has been very fulfilling and exciting for us all.
