Our team here at our Native American nonprofit Elderberry Wisdom Farm is continuing to work with a couple of our summer interns who are staying one additional month during September since there is still lots to do here over the next month. Special projects for the next month and includes opportunities for volunteers to join us for service learning here at the farm, including in our new Native American Plant Nursery. We are cultivating 1000 native trees and shrubs for partners. We are preparing our fall vegetable garden so we can continue to harvest vegetables for food we are gifting to Native Elders here in the valley.
If you would like to work with us and learn about some of the plant species native to the Willamette Valley or help remove some of those pesky invasive species, we welcome you to join us this fall. We may also have opportunities on Saturdays. You can wear suitable clothing for the weather and closed-toe shoes, that will help to make you more comfortable. We have garden gloves and great well water to fill your drinking container with.
I have shared with past volunteers that sometimes in the morning, the deer roam through here. We also have several quail families that scurries all over the farm. We have always been blessed with lots of bird species and more recently we are getting increased populations of bees and bumble bees native to the Willamette Valley.
If this sounds appealing to you, please get in touch with us by emailing rose@elderberrywisdom.org. We will update volunteers monthly so you can watch out for it in our newsletter. I hope you have signed up for the newsletter at our home page. We look forward to hearing from you.
